Staying on Track

You may have thought all your problems would go away when you quit drinking, using other drugs or gambling. But somehow, it didn’t work out that way. In fact, sometimes it feels like things are harder than they were before. Things like avoiding tempting situations. Getting people to trust you again. Talking to old friends. Handling cravings. Staying positive.

These things are all part of preventing relapse. Preventing relapse means not falling back into old habits like drinking, using other drugs or gambling. It means finding new, healthier ways of dealing with problems. Sometimes it means making mistakes and learning from them.

Staying on track with your recovery isn’t easy, especially at first. But with patience, planning and practice—and help from people who want to see you succeed—you can do it.
